We’re in a new economic moment.
I don’t know what to call it. You don’t either. But you feel it.
Storms have been coming in waves—global, economic, political, cultural. And the thing is, they don’t stop. We feel like we’re always in one, because we are always informed—often without being grounded. We have all the emotions, but rarely all the facts.
Still, here’s a fact: we are in a storm.
But this storm is not our destination.
You didn’t set out to arrive here, wherever here is for you. But you’re here. So am I.
A year ago, I was 30 pounds lighter.
My team was twice the size.
We’ve made gains and taken losses. Some were strategic. Others were emotional. (Yes, I’m eating my feelings. There, I said it.)
But I’m not stopping.
And if you’re a business leader—you can’t either.
You know where you’re headed.
So don’t let the storm make that decision for you.
While others pull back, shrink down, or stay silent—you have an opportunity to press in, speak up, and keep building.
Because when the storm clears?
You may find less competition. Less noise. More opportunity.
A Thought From a Friend
A quick exchange with a close friend reminded me of something profound. Uncle Kirk, a lifelong learner, was recently at an Egyptology conference. When I asked him what he was looking forward to on his trip to Egypt, he said:
“I want to see the vibrant colors that have survived for 3,000 years.
I’m color blind, so I won’t know what color it is,
but I can appreciate the survival of the art.”
That’s it, isn’t it?
Most of us aren’t color blind—but we all have blind spots.
We don’t see the whole picture.
We don’t know how it’s all going to work out.
But we can still move forward.
We can trust that what matters will endure.
We can show up with what we have.
Don’t Wait for the Storm to End
The biggest mistake you can make right now?
Waiting until it’s “clear” before you start speaking.
Your people need your story now.
Your team. Your clients. Your future customers.
They need your perspective, your voice, your leadership.
You don’t need the perfect words.
You just need to start.
That’s where we come in.
At Red Mallard, we help leaders like you craft your message—even when the skies are gray.
If you’re unsure where to begin but know you need to say something, let’s talk.
